Community Guidelines

Last Updated: February 23, 2026

Welcome to the Matlinks Community

Matlinks is built on the values of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community: respect, humility, continuous improvement, and mutual support. These guidelines help ensure that everyone — from white belts to black belts, hobbyists to professionals — can participate in a positive environment.

These guidelines apply to all interactions on Matlinks, including community posts, comments, messages, course discussions, reviews, and any other user-generated content.

1. Our Core Values

🤝 Respect

Treat everyone with respect, regardless of their belt rank, experience level, team affiliation, or background. We're all on the same journey.

🎓 Humility

Stay humble. Even the most experienced practitioners are always learning. Be open to feedback and different perspectives.

📈 Growth Mindset

Support others in their journey. Celebrate progress, share knowledge, and help build up the community rather than tearing it down.

🛡️ Safety

Prioritize safety — both physical and emotional. Don't encourage dangerous techniques without proper context, and be mindful of how your words affect others.

2. Encouraged Behavior

We love seeing:

  • Constructive feedback: Offer helpful critiques that help others improve
  • Knowledge sharing: Share techniques, experiences, and insights
  • Supportive comments: Encourage others, especially beginners
  • Thoughtful discussions: Engage in respectful debate about techniques and strategy
  • Original content: Create and share your own videos, analysis, and experiences
  • Proper attribution: Give credit when sharing others' techniques or ideas
  • Welcoming newcomers: Help new members feel at home
  • Celebrating achievements: Congratulate others on promotions, competitions, and milestones

3. Prohibited Content

3.1 Harassment and Bullying

We have zero tolerance for:

  • Personal attacks or insults
  • Targeted harassment of individuals
  • Doxxing (sharing private information without consent)
  • Threats of violence or physical harm
  • Sexual harassment or unwanted advances
  • Stalking or repeated unwanted contact
  • Encouraging others to harass someone

3.2 Discrimination

Content that discriminates based on:

  • Race, ethnicity, or national origin
  • Religion or beliefs
  • Gender or gender identity
  • Sexual orientation
  • Disability
  • Age
  • Any other protected characteristic

This includes slurs, derogatory terms, and content that demeans or dehumanizes groups of people.

3.3 Dangerous Content

  • Dangerous techniques without context: Heel hooks, neck cranks, and other high-risk techniques should include safety warnings
  • Encouraging injury: Don't encourage hurting training partners
  • Street fighting content: We're about sport and self-defense, not promoting violence
  • Self-harm or eating disorders: Content promoting these is not allowed

3.4 Spam and Manipulation

  • Repetitive posting of the same content
  • Fake engagement (buying likes, fake accounts)
  • Misleading links or clickbait
  • Unauthorized advertising or promotions
  • Pyramid schemes or MLM recruiting
  • Artificially inflating course ratings or reviews

3.5 Illegal Content

  • Content that violates any law
  • Pirated courses, videos, or instructionals
  • Drug sales or promotion
  • Weapons sales (outside of legitimate gear)
  • Copyright infringement

3.6 Adult Content

  • Pornography or sexually explicit material
  • Graphic violence beyond training context
  • Gore or disturbing imagery

4. BJJ-Specific Guidelines

4.1 Team and Gym Discussions

We understand that team loyalty runs deep in BJJ. When discussing teams, gyms, or instructors:

  • Focus on techniques and teaching style, not personal attacks
  • Don't spread unverified rumors about gyms or instructors
  • Respect that different gyms have different cultures
  • "Creonte" discussions should remain respectful

4.2 Belt Rank Discussions

  • Don't "call out" someone's belt rank as undeserved
  • Avoid bragging or diminishing others based on rank
  • Remember that promotion standards vary between schools
  • Respect that some people don't share their belt rank — that's okay

4.3 Competition and Results

  • Celebrate wins humbly
  • Don't taunt or disrespect opponents
  • Match footage should respect both competitors
  • Avoid "keyboard warrior" challenges

4.4 Technique Debates

Healthy debate about techniques is great! But:

  • Stay respectful even when you disagree
  • Back up claims with reasoning or evidence
  • Remember: what works for one person may not work for another
  • Don't dismiss techniques just because they're "old school" or "new school"

5. Content Quality Standards

5.1 For Coaches Creating Courses

  • Accurately describe course content and level
  • Include safety warnings where appropriate
  • Provide clear instruction with proper technique
  • Don't make unsubstantiated claims about effectiveness
  • Include prerequisites if techniques require prior knowledge

5.2 For Community Posts

  • Use descriptive titles
  • Tag content appropriately
  • Credit sources when sharing others' content
  • Mark spoilers for recent competition results
  • Use content warnings for intense training footage

5.3 For Reviews

  • Be honest and specific
  • Review the actual product/service, not personal grievances
  • Don't write fake reviews (positive or negative)
  • Update reviews if issues are resolved

6. Enforcement

6.1 Reporting

If you see content that violates these guidelines:

  • Use the "Report" button on the content
  • Select the appropriate reason
  • Add details if helpful
  • For urgent issues, email support@matlinks.io

Reports are reviewed by our team. We keep reporter identities confidential.

6.2 Consequences

Enforcement Actions (escalating):

1. Content removal
2. Warning
3. Temporary posting restriction
4. Temporary account suspension
5. Permanent ban

Severe violations (threats, doxxing, illegal content) may result in immediate permanent ban.

6.3 Appeals

If you believe an enforcement action was made in error:

  • Email appeals@matlinks.io
  • Include your username and the action taken
  • Explain why you believe the action was incorrect
  • We'll review within 5 business days

7. Protection of Minors

BJJ has many young practitioners, and we take their safety seriously:

  • Don't post content sexualizing minors in any way
  • Don't share personal information about minors
  • Coaches must maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Parents/guardians should supervise minors' platform use

Content involving minors that raises safety concerns will be reported to appropriate authorities.

8. Updates to Guidelines

We may update these guidelines as our community grows. Significant changes will be announced through the platform. Your continued use of Matlinks after changes constitutes acceptance.
